Pain - sensory and emotional Nociception - neural process of processing unpleasant stimuli. NOT same as pain

Nociceptors - pain receptors at the end of sensory neurons.

Pain fibres can either be: A-delta : myelinated. Short sharp pain C fibres : unmyelinated. Dull ache throbbing pain

Nociceptive pain: arises from pain from nociceptors Neuropathic pain: arises from injury/disease of somatosensory nervous system

Acute pain : appropriate to pain. Starts at injury time and lasts appropriate time Chronic Pain : goes on for a lot longer (3 months)
